ASC Signal history

ASC Signal, formerly Andrew Satellite Communications formed in 2008 after the acquisition by a private equity firm, is a leading global manufacturer of Earth Station Antennas and RF electronics for enterprise and consumer satellite communication applications.

ASC Signal brings a heritage of over 70 years experience in the design and manufacture of communications products. In 2015 ASC Signal was acquired by Communications & Power Industries, LLC, (CPI, Inc.)

ASC Signal's roots go back to 1937 when Victor 'Doc' Andrew founded the company as Andrew Corporation. Andrew made radio-broadcasting equipment and started manufacturing of antennas, cables and connectors after World War II.

In the 1970’s, Andrew's market began to change from government and military contracts to private sector applications since companies were allowed to compete with AT&T in long-distance communication.

Andrew Corporation acquired Channel Master's Smithfield, North Carolina satellite dish factory, equipment, inventory and intellectual property in an 18 million USD deal after that firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 2nd, 2003.

In the late 1990's Andrew was hurt by a slowdown in the expansion of the U.S. wireless market that resulted in a major restructuring of the company.  In mid-1997 the company disposed of its network products business and also significantly restructured its operation in Europe and in March 1999 the company announced its second major restructuring in less than two years and 900 employees lost their jobs.

Following years the company consolidated its businesses and made acquisitions. In 2005 Germany based Skware Radio Systems was bought and in 2006 Andrew acquired Precision Antennas from UK based Cobham. In 2007 Andrew itself was acquired by CommScope, Inc. that sold Andrew's Satellite Communications business to a private equity firm in January 2008 and would operate as newly formed, independent company; ASC Signal Corporation.

On September 17th, 2015 ASC Signal Corporation  was acquired by CPI, Inc. It will operate as CPI ASC Signal Division.
