8860 Antenna Tracking Controller

The 8860 incorporates ViaSat’s patented AdapTrack predictive tracking which “learns” satellite orbits and tracks geosynchronous satellites within 10% of the antenna’s Beamwidth Radial Error (BRE). Now UL and FCC Compliant. The Model 8860 ATC uses patented technology to give you easier and more refined control of your antenna system over four axes of motion: azimuth, elevation, and two motorized feeds. The 8860 provides manual and automatic positioning of all ViaSat motorized earth station antennas, in conjunction with the 8861A/8862 Antenna Position Controller (APC). The APC controls the positioning of the antenna, and reports position and faults to the ATC. 


The 8860 operator may manually position the antenna, or select from up to 60 satellite locations stored in memory for automatic antenna pointing. Any or all of these satellites may be fixed position or use Autopeak tracking. Up to five of the satellites can use AdapTrack, INTELSAT, or Program track modes. Non-volatile memory protects all satellite tables and tracking databases.

8861A Single Speed Antenna Position Controller

The Model 8862 is a microprocessor-based controller for azimuth, elevation, and two separate motorized polarization axes on antennas from 4.5 to 18 meters. Now UL and FCC Compliant. Model 8862 is a compact controller for variable speed positioning of 3-phase azimuth and elevation motors up to 10hp, and 3-phase feed motors up to 1/4 hp. With the controller installed at the antenna pedestal, you can use toggle switches on the 8862 to operate the unit directly, or use the 8860 Antenna Tracking Controller or an earth station control computer for remote control via an RS-422 serial link. A serial command set is available for custom monitor and control, enabling you to send move commands to the APC from an 8860 controller located up to 1000 meters away.  Azimuth and elevation resolution is 16 bits, with feed 1 and 2 axes resolution at 10 bits. The APC reads the azimuth and elevation position from brushless resolvers, and the feed 1 and 2 position by potentiometer. Digitizing transducer information at the antenna, rather than at the tracking controller, improves position measurement accuracy. The APC reports antenna position via the serial interface with a resolution of 0.0055°.
