History of HP/Agilent/Keysight

In 1939 two Stanford graduates, William Redington Hewlett and David Packard founded Hewlett Packard in a garage in Palo Alto California, USA. HP was long celebrated for its engineering know-how and laid-back corporate culture. It made hefty profits, as it grew into a multinational giant that sold a wide range of computer gear and commercial tech services.

Hewlett Packard
was an early pioneer of what became the model for Silicon Valley startups. Hewlett Packard was the world's leading PC manufacturer from 2007 to Q2 2013.

Major product lines included personal computing devices, enterprise and industry standard servers, related storage devices, networking products, software and a diverse range of printers and other imaging products.

In 1999 the company decided to divest itself of any products that were not computers or computer peripherals. Agilent Technologies was created by the spin-off of Hewlett Packard's "Medical Products and Instrument Group", including instrumentation and chemical analysis, electronic component and medical equipment product lines.

As the company moved into the 2010’s it underwent a major transformation. In 2013 Agilent Technologies announced that it will split into two separate pure-play measurement companies. The name of the new electronic measurement company is announced later in the year as Keysight Technologies.

During 2014 the separation process continued and on November 1st Keysight Technologies became a fully separate electronic measurement company.

On November 3rd, 2014, Keysight lists on the New York Stock Exchange, under ticker symbol KEYS, completing the final phase of its separation from Agilent.
