History of Vantor
DigitalGlobe: The Beginning (1992–2017)
Vantor’s history began in 1992, when entrepreneur Walter Scott founded DigitalGlobe in Oakland, California. The company’s vision was to make high-resolution satellite imagery commercially available for governments, businesses, researchers, and mapping organizations.

Introduced in February 2025, Raptor is Vantor’s advanced software suite designed for autonomous navigation in environments where traditional positioning systems such as GPS and GNSS are unavailable or unreliable.
Rather than relying solely on satellite navigation signals, Raptor compares live imagery captured by a drone or unmanned aircraft with Vantor’s extensive library of high-resolution 3D terrain models. Using computer vision and artificial intelligence, the software continuously determines the aircraft’s position by matching landmarks and terrain features.
