Transmit Reject Filters (TRF) are specifically designed to provide very low loss and extremely high rejection in the transmit band. These filters are used in receive systems to reject any spurious signals at transmit frequencies, while Rx reject filters are used in transmit systems to block spurious signals at receive frequencies. The Tx reject filters are designed to be used on receive systems to reject any spurious signals in the transmit frequency, while the Rx reject filters are used on transmit systems to reject any spurious signals in the receive frequency. The primary application of TRF’s is to isolate the receiving channel from the transmitting channel. Due to varying radio systems, the frequency ranges of receiving and transmitting channels (which may include multiple carriers) can either be close to or significantly distant from each other. Therefore, implementing such filters (specifically considering microwave bands and waveguide filters) can vary greatly.
For Ka-band satellite links, where downlink frequencies (18-21GHz) are lower than uplink frequencies (29.5-30GHz) and there is a significant distance between them, a corrugated waveguide low-pass filter can be the optimal solution. In this scenario, rejecting harmonics and other high-frequency interference is not required by specification, simplifying the design with fewer corrugations. However, the stop-band remains much wider than required, as evidenced by the characteristics.
However, Rx bandpass filters are engineered to offer rejection not only at transmit frequencies but also above and below the receive band.
