Express-AM1 (Ekspress-AM1)

Express-AM1 (Ekspress-AM1) was a Russian geostationary communications satellite operated by RSCC (Russian Satellite Communications Company). It was built by ISS Reshetnev with payload contributions from Alcatel Space and was part of Russia’s first generation of Express-AM satellites.

Launched on 29 October 2004 aboard a Proton-K / DM-2 rocket, Express-AM1 was designed to provide television broadcasting, radio, data transmission, and VSAT services. Operating in C-band and Ku-band, it delivered coverage across Russia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Asia, supporting both civilian and governmental communications.

Express-AM1 played a key role in modernizing Russia’s satellite communications infrastructure in the early 2000’s and laid the groundwork for later, higher-capacity Express satellites.
