Sirius FM2
Sirius FM-2, also known as Radiosat-2, was an American communications satellite operated by Sirius XM Radio (formerly Sirius Satellite Radio). The satellite was built by Space Systems Loral (SSL) and was based on the LS-1300 satellite bus, a widely used high-power GEO satellite platform.
The satellite was launched on September 5, 2000, at 09:43 UTC, aboard a Proton-K/DM-3 launch vehicle. The launch was arranged by International Launch Services (ILS) and took place from Launch Site 81/23 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Sirius FM-2 was placed into a highly elliptical Tundra orbit, enabling continuous satellite radio coverage over North America. From this orbit, the spacecraft delivered digital satellite radio broadcasting services across the United States and parts of Canada.
The satellite was designed for an operational lifespan of approximately 15 years. After completing its service mission, Sirius FM-2 was decommissioned in 2016 and subsequently transferred to a disposal (graveyard) orbit, marking the official end of its operational life.
