Prodelin

Prodelin Corporation was world’s largest designer and manufacturer of satellite communications antennas used in satellite communications. The company was specialized in providing high quality and cost-effective Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) antennas for both RxTx and receive-only (Rx-only) applications. The company also manufactured additional products including unique special purpose antennas for customers as NASA and defense contractors.

Prodelin Corporation was founded in 1987 by Larry Bowman as The Product Development Company and was based in Newton, North Carolina. Prodelin Corporation was privately held when it was acquired by TriPoint Global Communications, Inc. TriPoint was then acquired by General Dynamics C4 Systems (GD) in 2004 to expand its offering of mobile communications systems for the military.  Prodelin is the brand for VSAT antennas marketed by the SATCOM division, a subsidiary of General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, Inc. (GDSatcom).

Company History

In our research it was hard to find facts and numbers of Prodelin Corp. but we found some bits and pieces that we have tried to put in a chronological way.

Larry Bowman founded Prodelin Corporation in 1987 as The Product Development Company and operated the company out of Newton, North Carolina, USA. Before establishing Prodelin Bowman was Vice President of Operations for CommScope, Inc. and currently Bowman is a Principal with Bowman Investments, LLC, a private investment business.

In 2000 Tripoint Global Communications, Inc, a privately held provider of ground-based satellite and wireless communication equipment and integration services for video, voice and data applications worldwide acquired Prodelin Corp. Tripoint Global already bought satellite equipment manufacturer Vertex in 1999 from Vertex Corp. Tripoint Global was composed that time of RSI, Prodelin, Gabriel Electronics & Microwave and CSA Wireless Communications, a microwave antenna manufacturer based in Hickory NC, USA. TriPoint merged Vertex Corp. with RSI to become VertexRSI as a separate division manufacturing Earth Station Antennas.

TriPoint became a leading supplier of base station and earth station communications products and services, VSAT antennas and antenna systems and wireless backhaul products. The company had approximately 1,450 employees in 14 locations, including Newton (NC), Duluth, (GA), San Jose and Torrance, (CA), Rockaway (NJ), State College (PE), Kilgore, Longview, Mexia and Richardson (TX) and Estonia, Germany and India.

In 2002 TriPoint Global decided to discontinue the microwave antenna products formerly produced by Gabriel and Mark Grid Antenna businesses. The antennas would then be manufactured under the Prodelin brand. Also the company announced that it had formed a 4th business group, called Broadband Wireless Solutions. The new group would provide products, business analysis and engineering support for MMDS and LMDS two-way delivery of Internet and other related IP services. The new group is being created through the realignment of existing business areas and engineering teams within the company’s VertexRSI, Prodelin and CSA Wireless Groups. TriPoint Global had significant capabilities and a long history of developing successful MMDS or wireless cable services for international and domestic customers through its VertexRSI, Prodelin and CSA Wireless businesses.

In June 2004 Global Aerospace and Defense manufacturer General Dynamics acquired Tripoint Global Communications. TriPoint became part of the General Dynamics C4 Systems business unit, which is a leading integrator of secure communication and information systems and technology. With the acquisition of TriPoint, General Dynamics had presence in India with two manufacturing facilities in Noida and a marketing-sales office in Delhi, forming Tripoint Global Asia Pvt, Ltd. (TPGA).

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, VA, USA employed in 2004 approximately 68,400 people worldwide. The company has leading market positions in mission critical information systems and technologies, land and amphibious combat systems, shipbuilding and marine systems and business aviation.

In 2005 GD sold CSA Wireless to MAT Jaybeam, a manufacturer of Base Station Antennas for Mobile Infrastructure to become Jaybeam Wireless and then became part of Amphenol Antenna Systems after Amphenol acquiring Jaybeam in 2010.

In 2015 mWAVE Industries, LLC, established in 2004 and designer and manufacturer of standard and custom microwave antenna products, acquired all assets and IP of the Gabriel and Mark Grid Antenna Brands.

In August 2019 it was announced that Communications Power Industries, Inc. (CPI) would purchase GDSatcom Technologies, from General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc, in a 175 million USD value transaction. The acquisition was to be finalized before end of 2019 but U.S. Justice Department required CPI to divest its ASC Signal Division. Without CPI’s divesture of ASC Signal, there would be significant less competition for large earth station antennas in the USA and the deal would give CPI a monopoly on the antenna business in the USA.

In June 2020 Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, supplier of transportable and fixed earth station antennas for military and commercial satellites, acquired ASC Signal antenna division from CPI, Inc. for 35 million USD in cash.
