DirecTV 5 (AT&T 5, T5, Tempo I)

DirecTV 5, later renamed AT&T 5, was a geostationary communications satellite operated by DirecTV and later by AT&T. It was designed to support direct-to-home (DTH) television broadcasting services for the United States, helping to expand digital satellite TV capacity.

The satellite was built by Space Systems/Loral (SSL) on the LS-1300 platform and launched on 7 May 2002 aboard an ILS  Proton-K / Block DM rocket. The satellite operated primarily in the Ku-band, providing reliable coverage optimized for consumer satellite television reception.

The spacecraft served as an important part of DirecTV’s early 2000’s satellite fleet, supporting the growth and stability of its nationwide broadcast services before being retired later in its operational life.
