The Andøya Spaceport launch facility in Norway is operated by Andøya Space, 90% owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Fisheries. The Spaceport is located in the north or Norway close to Tromsø. Various launch operators, such as Rocket Factory Augsburg from Germany, are using the launch facility to test their rockets.
Andøya Space, also known as Andøya Space Center and previously referred to as Andøya Rocket Range, serves as a rocket launch complex, rocket testing area, and spaceport situated on Andøya Island, which holds the distinction of being the northernmost island within the Vesterålen archipelago. This island is located within Andøy Municipality, nestled in Nordland county, Norway. Spanning from 1962 to the present day, the site has been responsible for launching more than 1,200 sounding rockets and sub-orbital rockets of diverse designs.
Operating as a civilian enterprise, Andøya Space takes the form of a limited liability company, with ownership distributed between two main entities. Specifically, the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry holds a majority share of 90%, while the remaining 10% is owned by the Kongsberg Defense Systems company. The operations of Andøya Space are conducted in a commercial manner. Additionally, Andøya Space plays a supporting role for the SvalRak launch facility located in Ny-Ålesund on Svalbard (Spitsbergen), which is situated to the north. Noteworthy collaborations have been established with esteemed space agencies such as ESA, NASA, JAXA, and DLR, encompassing a range of missions and scientific research endeavors.
