Satellite operator Viasat installed their sixth GSaas Ground Station in Öjebyn in northern Sweden.
In February 2022, Viasat inaugurated a Real-Time Earth (RTE) facility near Öjebyn in Piteå, located in northern Sweden. The facility is hosted by the ground station provider Arctic Space Technologies and contributes polar capabilities to ViaSat’s Ground-Station-as-a-Service (GSaaS) network, which offers secure satellite data handling services.
To enable Real-Time Earth services for international clients, a new 7.3m triband (S/X/Ka) antenna system was installed. This antenna marks Viasat’s first high-latitude RTE facility and becomes the sixth global site within the GSaaS network. The GSaaS network is a fully managed network capable of serving satellites operating in S-, X-, and Ka-bands. Notably, Viasat also recently established its inaugural RTE facility in Africa, specifically in Accra, Ghana. Other installations were conducted in Alice Springs in Australia, Cordoba in Argentina, Guildford in the UK and Pendergrass GA, USA.
Viasat Inc. provides high-technology networking and signal processing equipment and services for broadband digital satellite and other wireless communications. In fiscal 2002, defense-related contracts accounted for about two-thirds of the company’s business, with commercial contracts accounting for the remaining third.
