Merah Putih 2 (HTS-113BT) at 113° East

The Merah Putih 2 (HTS-113BT) at 113° East satellite is operated by PT Telkom or TelcomSat from Indonesia. The satellite was constructed by Thales Alenia Space from France, which was contracted in 2021 to build the spacecraft. Merah Putih provides 32 gigabits per second of capacity and carries active transponders on C-band and Ku-band frequencies to expand the coverage to all areas of Indonesia and replaces the lost Palapa-N1 (Nusantara 2) satellite.

The HTS-113BT is a new High Throughput Satellite telecommunications satellite in C-band/Ku-Band for PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia and subsidiary Telkomsat, a state-owned digital telecommunication company in Indonesia, for its orbital position at 113° East. The satellite cost 242,800,000 USD.

On February 20th, 2024, launch operator SpaceX successfully launched the telecommunications satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. Merah-Putih-2, named after Indonesia’s flag colors, was designed to improve connectivity in the country.
