Thuraya-4 NGS at 98.5° East

Thuraya-4 NGS (Next Generation Mobile Telecommunications System) 98.5° East will drive the continued advancement of Thuraya’s L-band business across the EMEA region and Central Asia.

The satellite will increase coverage and capacity, while delivering better capabilities and flexibility to enable next generation mobility solutions for all customer segments, including defense, government and enterprise. The contract includes an option for a Thuraya-5 NGS satellite that would complete the replacement of Thuraya-2 and -3 aging satellite fleet.

Thuraya-4 NGS spacecraft was ordered in August 2020 with Airbus Defense & Space and is based on the state-of-the-art all-electric Eurostar Neo Platform. The satellite comprises a large 12m L-band antenna and a payload with on-board processing, facilitating advanced routing flexibility of up to 3,200 channels with dynamic power allocation over a large number of spot beams.

The satellite was launched on January 4th 2025 on a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX, from the SLC-40 launch site at Cape Canaveral SFS in Florida, USA.
