AISTech Space

AISTech Space is a privately held space technology company headquartered in Barcelona in Spain. The company combines its geospatial analytics expertise with its own LEO constellation of CubeSats to deliver solutions that help customers manage their assets and manage environmental threats. The AISTech constellation of LEO’s is based on a mix of small satellite 2U and 6U platforms (CubeSats) with multiple payloads onboard.

The HYDRA platform (6U) is carrying onboard an Earth Observation payload designed by AISTech. The multi-payload platform is completed with an ADS-B receiver, a Space-IoT and SIGINT technology. The total number of HYDRA’s planned to deploy in orbit are 20 to 30 small satellites.

The DANU platform (2U) is also a multi-payload platform focused on Asset Monitoring integrating onboard an ADS-B receiver, a Space-IoT and SIGINT technology. The company plans a total number of 98 DANU’s CubeSats to deploy in orbit. These satellites provide aircraft tracking using the ADS-B receiver. Also, a bi-directional communication system is available on board to send and receive automatic information from the maritime vessel or remote asset worldwide.

The company generates valuable information to the Maritime, Agriculture, Transportation, Energy, Weather, Oil & Gas, Mining and Aerial sectors using their HYDRA and DANU constellation of CubeSats to provide thermal images of the Earth.

A multi-spectral imaging system on board of the satellites, is able to take pictures in thermal, infrared and visual spectrum. The images will be used in forest management, fire detection, gathering data for agriculture like identifying the health of the plant and analyzing land for expansion. The Imaging system can also detect energy consumption and loss of building.

On May 25th, 2022 the company launched its first thermal imaging satellite, the Guardian-1 on a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX. The Guardian-1 CubeSat will be the first in a planned and one of the first commercial constellations capable of taking high-resolution thermal images on demand.

Company History

AISTech Space was founded in July 2015 by Guillermo Valenzuela (CEO) and Carles Franquesa (COO & BDM). Franquesa holds an MBA at ESADE Barcelona Pedralbes Campus.

In September 2017 the company signed a framework delivery agreement with satellite manufacturer GOMSpace from Denmark, for the supply of up to 100 Nano-satellite platforms for their DANU constellation. AISTech plans to procure standard platforms of different sizes that will be used to build their upcoming multipurpose constellation by 2022. The Agreement will be executed in the form of batch orders with delivery of several platforms at a time.

In May 2018 ÅAC Microtec AB (now ÅAC Clyde Space) was awarded an order from AISTech Space to supply spacecraft sub-systems to 10 of AISTech’s next generation of satellites, assembled by GOMSpace.

In July 2018 AISTech and GOMSpace signed a contract for the delivery of six standard Nano-satellites platforms and the assembly, integration and verification of AISTech’s 10 DANU spacecraft, to be built on GOMSpace platforms. The contract also included other engineering services, such as pre-launch environmental testing.

On December 2nd, 2018 the company launched their AISTechSAT-2 CubeSat on a Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX. The AISTechSAT-2 satellite is a 2U CubeSat that was developed to help with maritime and aeronautical tracking as a prototype for a larger constellation.

In April 2019 the AISTechSAT-3 (DANU Pathfinder-1) CubeSat was launched on a PSLV launch vehicle operated by ISRO from India. The satellite is a demo Pathfinder for the planned constellation of LEO satellites.
