🛰️ Overview & Founding

  • Name: LandSpace Technology Corporation
  • Founded: 2015 by Zhang Changwu
  • Headquarters: Beijing, China
  • Mission / Focus:
LandSpace aims to build a full industrial chain for commercial space transportation: design, development, manufacturing, testing, and launching of rockets (especially medium- and large-class liquid-oxygen/methane rockets).
They promote their technology as “green, low-pollution, cost-effective” (methane + LOX propulsion) and are working toward reusability.

🚀 Historical Milestones

  • Zhuque-1 (ZQ-1):
LandSpace’s initial launcher was a three-stage solid-propellant rocket. Its only launch was on 27 October 2018; the vehicle failed to deliver the payload to orbit due to a third-stage anomaly.
After this, the company shifted focus to liquid-fueled, methane-based rockets.
  • Zhuque-2 (ZQ-2):
This is LandSpace’s flagship launcher: a LOX + methane (methalox) medium-class rocket.
     - First flight: December 2022 — reached space but failed to reach precise orbit due to second-stage vernier engine issues.
     - Second flight: 12 July 2023 — successfully reached orbit, making it the first methane-fueled rocket in the world to orbit
     - Third flight (8 December 2023): successfully placed three satellites into a sun-synchronous orbit.
  • Zhuque-3 (ZQ-3):
Under development: a larger, reusable launcher planned with stainless steel structure, multiple engines, and first-stage recovery ambitions.
By mid-2025, LandSpace had conducted static tests and propulsion tests for ZQ-3, aiming for maiden launch in late 2025.
  • Funding & IPO ambitions:
LandSpace has received funding from venture capital (e.g. HongShan, formerly Sequoia China), state-backed funds, and other investors.
As of mid-2025, the company is considering an IPO in Shanghai.
  • Industrial infrastructure:
They’ve built or are building liquid rocket assembly/test plants in Zhejiang (Jiaxing) and manufacturing bases in Huzhou.

📅 2025 Year-to-Date (YTD) Developments & Activities

  • Successful launch of upgraded Zhuque-2E Y2 (17 May 2025):
LandSpace launched six satellites into orbit (radar, multispectral, research) using an upgraded version of Zhuque-2 — designated ‘Zhuque-2E Y’.
This mission marks the fifth flight in the Zhuque-2 series, demonstrating improved payload performance.
The rocket uses sub-cooled propellants to boost thrust and improve efficiency.
  • Progress on ZQ-3 development:
LandSpace has performed static-fire tests of the ZQ-3 booster core and other engine tests at Jiuquan.
They intend ZQ-3 to be reusable; if successful, LandSpace would become one of few Chinese firms to field a reusable rocket.
  • Commercial & strategic positioning:
LandSpace is planning to conduct three Zhuque-2 launches in 2024 (already done) and six in 2025 (ambitious target).
They’re positioning themselves among the leading Chinese “NewSpace” launch providers, competing with names like Galactic Energy, Space Pioneer, Deep Blue, i-Space, CAS Space, etc.
They are also seen as a more environmentally friendly option owing to methane-based, cleaner propellants.
  • IPO consideration:
In 2025, LandSpace is actively exploring the possibility to list on a Shanghai stock exchange.
