Al Yah 1 (Yahsat 1A, Y1A) satellite was launched on April 22nd, 2011 by launch operator Arianespace on an Ariane V rocket in a dual launch with Intesat New Dawn satellite from satellite operator Intelsat. Al Yah 1 was the first satellite launched by Arianespace for the United Arab Emirates.

The satellite was built by Airbus Defense & Space and Thales Alenia Space providing the payload. The satellite offers C-, Ku- and Ka-band for government solutions and Yahlive services, beaming high-quality free-to-air TV channels to a culturally diverse audience.

Al Yah 1 was a joint venture between Yahsat and satellite operator SES, creating a new company operating under the brand, YahLive. The joint-venture, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, was created in 2009 and is offering DTH televison capacity and services to countries in the Middle-East, North Africa and the West Asian region. The satellite is operated by SES and Yahsat owns 23 Ku-band transponders.
