Thaicom 4 (IPSTAR) operated by satellite operator Thaicom from Thailand is the world’s first high-throughput satellite (HTS) and is located at the orbital position of 119.5° East. IPSTAR provides the telecom industry, businesses, and government administrations in Asia-Pacific with cost-effective satellite broadband capacity and services. The satellite’s 2-way multiple Ku-band spot beams deliver cost-effective satellite broadband services to unserved and underserved areas.

Thaicom-4 was constructed by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) and launched by Arianespace in August 2005 on an Ariane 5EGS rocket. Satellite operator MEASAT from Malaysia signed a 10-year contract with Thaicom to have access to 7 spotbeams and is marketing under MEASAT-5.
