ABS-7, located at 116° East, is a Lockheed Martin A2100 satellite featuring Ku- and Ka-band transponders. The satellite’s two FSS beams cover Afghanistan and the Middle-East region, making it ideal for GSM cellular backhaul, satellite broadband, VSAT-services and government applications.
The high-powered BSS Ku-band coverage over Pakistan, Afghanistan and North-West India is suitable for DTH and CATV-video distribution. Its Ka-band beam over Afghanistan and Pakistan is also highly suitable for government applications.
ABS acquired the KoreaSat-3 satellite from satellite operator KT Sat in September 2006 and renamed ABS-7. The satellite will be replaced by newcomer ABS-8, but ABS is still in discussions with its manufacturer Boeing. ABS cancelled the order since it radically changed its future satellite plans.
