The 1.2m Repointing & Tracking Earth Station Antenna, model OPM-1, manufactured by French company Orbitracs, is conceived as counter balanced polar mount. It can accommodate any offset antenna sizing up to 1.2m and can be employed at Ku- and Ka-band frequencies.
The polar geometry allows quick and easy access of all orbit positions in the field of view while activating a single actuator. To note that when changing orbit positions, there is no need for polarization adjustment, thanks to the polar configuration.
All hardware is locally produced in France and of professional quality (stainless steel). All software is in-house developed, maintained and adapted when needed.
Inclined orbit tracking is performed with a second actuator in the perpendicular declination plane. The inclined tracking function is performed without any need for feed-back signals (beacon receiver, agc etc.). This thanks to a unique Orbitracs proprietary algorithm that allows open-loop tracking for many years without the need for updates, feedback or any other intervention.
The stations have a small self-contained outdoor controller fixed on the mast, accessible through TCP/IP. A basic command set enables to verify status and perform all functionalities. An SNMP controller can be added, allowing to integrate the stations in larger control networks that generally are SNMP based.
For easy individual use, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is available running under Windows.
Installation of the station can be done by a single person in maximum one day. Once installed and aligned, all visible satellite (stable but also the inclined ones) can be immediately accessed. No optimization for each position is needed. If, however certain satellites are not exactly in the officially declared position, offset can be applied and stored for an unlimited number of the individual positions.
The Orbitracs OPM product line offers unique and innovative motorized Earth Station mounts with two main functionalities:
- remotely controlled pointing to any geo-stationary orbit position in a 100° arc
- automatic open-loop tracking of any inclined satellite accessible in the field of view.
The latter function is performed without any need for feed-back signals (beacon receiver, agc etc.). This thanks to a unique Orbitracs proprietary algorithm that allows open-loop tracking for many years without the need for updates, feedback or any other intervention. Numerous OPM systems have now been in operation for several years in Europe and Africa without any intervention or updates.

The polar geometry allows quick and easy access of all orbit positions in the field of view while activating a single actuator. Fields of Applications
Network operators who wish to reduce the space segment costs by accessing Inclined Satellites in a reliable manner. At the same time obtaining the capability to instantaneously re-point the network to a different satellite location. Thus, creating backup with respect to space segment availability and increasing resiliency.
Satellite operators and users who have a need to access different satellites from a remote location. This is possible with a single OPM station and both inclined and stable satellites can be accessed instantaneously in identical manner.
Deliverables & Options
Basic deliverable is the OPM motorized mount equipped with an autonomous Outdoor Controller. On request Orbitracs can also provide a suitable antenna. Note that Orbitracs does not normally deliver any Transmit/Receive RF front-end equipment
The station price includes on-site installation by Orbitracs staff (travel and subsistence will be charged in addition) and 3 years unlimited hardware warranty. For clients procuring larger quantities, client installer training can be offered.
Orbitracs is a French company that is marketing innovative small motorized Satellite Earth Stations ranging from 1.2 to 3.8m in diameter. The company was created in 2014 by senior engineer Daniel Tits. Prior founding the company, Daniel spent 40 years in SatCom with ESA and satellite operator Eutelsat.
For all Orbitracs systems, Daniel decided to have all hardware locally manufactured in France by professional contractors that provide high-quality materials (stainless steel, hot-dip galvanized etc.). The software is developed and maintained and adjusted in-house.
Unlike most other commercialized Earth Stations, the Orbitracs OPM stations all have a polar-mount configuration, which implies that ‘horizontal’ motion is performed in a plane parallel to the equator, activating a single actuator. The ‘vertical’ motion is performed in a perpendicular plane employing a second actuator.
Orbitracs stations were developed and validated, in many different contexts, over the past ten years. Numerous installations were made in Africa and Europe. Experience gained during these activities has made the systems gradually evolved and improved in performance and reliability. This to the point that today Orbitracs systems have unprecedented performance and are fully suited to carry any professional satcom application.
