THOR 5 (1° W) satellite is operated by Space Norway (former Telenor Satellite Services). The satellite was built by Orbital Sciences Corp. (Orbital ATK – Northrop Grumman) and launched on February 11th, 2008 on a Delta II rocket operated by Lockheed Martin. The launch was contracted to launch operator ILS.

In April 2018. that timer Telenor signed a multi-transponder agreement with satellite operator Intelsat to support growth of leading Direct-to-Home (DTH) platform in Central and Eastern Europe. The agreement will provide Intelsat with satellite capacity for its broadcast customers on THOR 5.
