VertexRSI 9m antenna with Viasat pedestal installed for MB Satellite in Germany

A VertexRSI 9m antenna with Viasat pedestal mount was installed for MB Satellite in Germany. The antenna was fully refurbished and successfully assembled, aligned and commissioned in 2017.

Skybrokers delivered and installed an used and refurbished Vertex 9.0m earth station antenna with a Scientific Atlanta (Viasat) 10m Pedestal mount at Media Broadcast Satellite teleport in Usingen (Frankfurt Area), Germany.

Prior to installation our team adjusted an existing foundation that was used for a 13m antenna that was removed. We used a water-cooled drill to make new holes for the 9m threaded rods to be installed in the foundation. The installation was successfully performed by a two-member installation team and took 3.5 weeks in November 2017.

Media Broadcast Satellite (MBS) in Usingen near Frankfurt, Germany, is one of the world’s largest teleport operators. It has successfully been implementing and operating communication solutions for globally active customers since the 1970’s. The company offers tailor-made solutions for the areas of broadcast, data, teleport and data centers.

MBS can reach satellites between 76° East and 60° West through more than 135 antennas in the Ku-, Ka- and C-band, and operates a NOC 24/7/365.

The area of 140 hectares of today’s Earth Station was used as an ammunition depot and field airfield during World War II. After the war, the site was taken over by what was then the Deutsche Bundespost and a shortwave station was built in 1955. In 1979 the first parabolic antenna was built. It has a diameter of 18.3 meters. Two further antennas, each 19.5 meters in diameter, followed in the early 1980s.

The Earth Station was built by the Deutsche Bundespost and has been in operation since 1977. In 2008 it was taken over by the French broadcaster TDF, who sold it on to three senior managers of the facility in 2019 in a management buy-out.

In mid-2015, Media Broadcast, GmbH outsourced the operation of the Earth Station and the entire satellite business to its own subsidiary, Media Broadcast Satellite, GmbH. That became independent In 2016.

VertexRSI offered the full range of earth station and base station communications products and was specialized in fixed and mobile satellite communication gateways, antennas, high power amplifiers, baseband products, frequency converters, controls and microwave components. VertexRSI offered design and engineering support as preparation for the installation.

Skybrokers offers for over 10 years VertexRSI Satellite Earth Station Antennas, new as well as used. We can provide turnkey solutions, refurbishment and upgrades. The company was founded in 1973 and operated from 2004 till 2019 as subsidiary of General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, a USA based business unit of General Dynamics C4 Systems, operating as General Dynamics Mission Systems. VertexRSI was owned by Tripoint Global, a privately held company in New York who bought Vertex in 1999 from Vertex Corp. Tripoint Global was composed that time of RSI, Prodelin, Gabriel Electronics & Microwave and CSA Wireless Communications. Tripoint Global merged Vertex with RSI to become VertexRSI. GDSatcom acquired Trpoint Global in 2004.

In 2019 VertexRSI (GDSatcom) was acquired by CPI, Inc.
