Position:118° East
Manufacturer:Thales Alenia Space
Launch operator:Arianespace
Launch vehicle:Ariane 5ECA
Launch date:02/14/2017
Expected lifetime:15+ Years

Telkom-3S communications satellite replaced the Telkom-3 satellite that was stranded in an unusable orbit. The satellite was designed for a 15-year expected lifetime.

In 2014 PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (PT Telkom) ordered the Telkom-3S satellite with Thales Alenia Space. Telkom-3S would increase PT Telkom’s C-band capacity from its orbital position at 118° East, and will also offer high-definition television (HDTV) and remote GSM/Internet-services in Ku-band.

Built on Thales Alenia Space’s new-generation Spacebus-4000B2 platform, Telkom-3S will be fitted with 24 C-band transponders, 8 extended C-band transponders, and 10 Ku-band transponders. The C-band payload will cover Indonesia and South-East Asia, while the extended C-band payload will cover both Indonesia and part of Malaysia. The Ku-band payload will specifically cover Indonesia.

Thales Alenia Space was program prime contractor, with responsibility for the design, construction, testing and in-orbit delivery of the satellite. It was also in charge of the launch and early orbital positioning phase (LEOP) and in-orbit tests (IOT). In addition and supplied control center components and training.

The satellite weighed about 3,500 kg at launch and offers payload power of 6.3 kW. Telkom-3S was launched by launch operator Arianespace on February 14th, 2017 on an Ariane 5 rocket.
